Mission and Vision

RAEIN-Africa acknowledges the important role science and technology can play in response to food insecurity and environmental challenges and believes the interaction between science, technology (innovations) and society allows the technology to be moulded into an appropriate instrument for development.

RAEIN-Africa believes that for science and technology to play a significant role in poverty reduction, there is need for an improved and all inclusive research and development system, developed and implemented in a participatory and need driven manner, from research agenda setting processes to technology development and use; policy formulation and implementation.

RAEIN-Africa’s mission is to enhance capacity of stakeholders to undertake research, formulate policies and to apply scientific and technological innovations that are people centred and gender sensitive through inclusive and participatory processes for sustainable development.

RAEIN-Africa visualises a developing world in which there is an enabling environment for co-innovation and in which science and technology products and policies contribute to poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Her vision therefore is to be a leading organisation in innovation systems for science and technology for poverty reduction and sustainable development.

In pursuit of the above vision and mission, RAEIN-Africa is determined to achieve its goal to facilitate development and/or adaptation of appropriate emerging technologies for the benefit of marginalized end-users in southern Africa, in a gender-sensitive manner whilst enhancing interactive methodological approaches with emphasis on environmental and socio-economic sustainability.
