RAEIN-Africa’s principal mandate , as spelt out in its constitution, and endorsed by the partners who participated in the “Eastern and Southern Africa Biosafety needs identification” and the “Agricultural Biotechnology Research needs in Southern Africa” Studies, of 2001/2002, is to: facilitate a multi-stakeholder and holistic approach to networking among SADC regional partners in research, development and use of emerging technologies that contribute to the enhancement of food security and sustainable use and management of the environment.
RAEIN-Africa believes that science and technology has a significant role to play in poverty reduction if there is an improved and all inclusive research and development system, developed and implemented in a participatory and need driven way - from research agenda setting processes to technology development and policy development. It there set to achieve its set goals guided by its vision, mission objectives and core values.

Mission
Its mission is to enhance capacity of stakeholders to undertake research, formulate policies; apply scientific and technological innovations that are people centred and gender sensitive through inclusive and participatory processes for sustainable development.
Goal:
In pursuit of the above vision, RAEIN-Africa is determined to achieve its goal to facilitate development and/or adaptation of appropriate emerging technologies for the benefit of marginalized end-users in SADC, in a gender-sensitive manner whilst enhancing interactive methodological approaches with emphasis on environmental and socio-economic sustainability.
